2019 VW Beetle Convertible Colors, Interior, Release Date – Despite rumors of its discontinuation before this season, a new report suggests that the 2019 VW Beetle Convertible could be back for a different generation. A couple of weeks ago, industry rumors maintained that Volkswagen had decided to kill the Beetle following the present version’s production run in an effort to save money by cutting the number of components it needs to create every year.
2019 VW Beetle Rumors
Talking at the sidelines of the New York Motor Show, Volkswagen executive Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser taken down the rumors and announced the next-gen 2019 VW Beetle Convertible is going to be released in 2018 in the latest, suggesting that development work is already underway in Wolfsburg.
Neusser verified that another Beetle will ride on Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform, a move which will enable it to weigh considerably less than the current model. It will stay one of Volkswagen’s most evocative models but it is going to embrace a new design language which is going to be noticeably more emotional and more lively. Having said that, the majority of the heritage-laced styling hints that have distinguished Volkswagen’s reborn Beetle will be located on the car.
The executive also pointed out that constructing the 2019 VW Beetle Convertible on the MQB platform will make it feasible for the retro-inspired icon to go electrical, though he did not define whether it is going to find a plug-in hybrid drivetrain or even a whole electric drivetrain. Buyers who would rather burn only dino juice will be able to order another Beetle using three- and four-cylinder gasoline- and diesel-burning engines sourced directly from the Volkswagen parts bin.
2019 VW Beetle Concept
Talking to Autocar, VW chairman Herbert Diess states that the company is indeed considering a brand new, volt-powered Beetle. Sitting to the new electric MEB stage, the next-generation strike buggy would also reportedly be rear-wheel push, harking back to the original, rear-engine, rear-drive design seen in the first People’s Car in 1939. It is going to also be closely associated with the I.D. Buzz Microbus resurrection scheduled for 2022.
“The next decision on electrical cars will be what sort of emotional concepts we are in need of,” says Diess. He goes on to define “emotional concepts” as automobiles like the Microbus, Kübelwagen, and obviously, Beetle–unconventional vehicles which bear strong historical significance to the brand. “If we wanted to do some Beetle, it would be much better than the current version, much nearer to history, because it could be rear-wheel drive,” adds Diess.
The original, WWII-era Beetle used a rear-mounted boxer-four and shipped power exclusively to the wheels. The Volkswagen bug’s 21st-century incarnations, nevertheless , all have been front-engined, front-drive affairs so far. While it’s yet to be set in stone to the next 2019 VW Beetle Convertible, Diess claims that the electrical MEB platform is extremely flexible, satisfying the needs for any potential “mental concepts” nicely. “We have a good opportunity on the electric side. You can do derivatives effectively. We have a very flexible platform. We can do fine things: rear-wheel drive, and front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive.”
